With a magnificent line up of musicians and artists the 9th edition of the internationally highly esteemed DONAUFESTIVAL will take place at two extended weekends from April 25th to May 4th near to Vienna in Krems, Austria.
Bringing together the avant-garde and the subculture of different art forms such as theatre, installation, visual and media arts and not least music and sound art, the festival focuses on aesthetical issues with a political approach.
Regarding the musical program you’ll find legends like MARK STEWART (performing together with RUSSELL HASWELL and PAN SONIC’s MIKA VAINIO!), ROBERT HOOD, ZOVIET FRANCE and PORTISHEADs GEOFF BARROW (presenting two new projects) next to showcases from the terrific labels Tri Angle (oOoOO, THE HAXAN CLOAK) and PAN (NHK, SND, LEE GAMBLE).
There’ll be some of the most advanced figures of today’s club culture such as ACTRESS, ANDY STOTT and THE GASLAMP KILLER next to mind-blowing pop singularities like the hypnagogic pop duo HYPE WILLIAMS and the outstanding Syrian superstar OMAR SOULEYMAN.
Whether if you’re fascinated by the hybridisation of techno, noise and bass experimentalism (EMPTYSET, DEMDIKE STARE, RAIME, CONTAINER), by the experimental use of human voice in computer music (HOLLY HERNDON) or by the hauntological sounds of ambient masters like WILLIAM BASINSKI and BIOSPHERE: the DONAUFESTIVAL has to be checked out by anyone who’s interested in expending his/her aesthetic-political sensorium and who wants to know and experience what progressive art and music is about today.
