General Info

The annual Berlin Festival is fast approaching. NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION lists up the acts it’s most excited about and sheds some light on the new location.

Berlin Festival Location

The news that Berlin festival was moving location was greeted by much uproar, confusion, debate and criticism. Formerly located at Berlin’s disused airfield, Tempelhof, the festival will now be held on the newly named Arena Park for 2014. The exciting, new venue surrounds and includes Club der Visionäre, Arena, Hoppetosse and White Trash. Alongside the festivities at Club Xberg, the new location and concept offers festival-goers a non-stop 48 hour programme right in the heart of Kreuzberg.

Berlin Festival will take place from September 5-7 at Arena Park

White Trash, Club der Visionäre, Glashaus, Arena Club, Hoppetosse and Area Berlin itself are all part of the new location. The new Berlin Festival will also boast two outdoor stages: Splash! Mag Stage and Badeschiff.

After the Art Village’s great success last year, 2014 will see even more art and installations, covering the entire festival site. Find out more about the Art Village on Berlin Festival’s official site

In addition to art installations, poetry and performance, the beloved Art Village will see its culinary counterpart this year – the Food Village.

My two cents: I, for one, approve of the location change. I think its far better suited to the festival and is generally a better representation of Berlin’s nightlife than Tempelhof is. The former airfield is, without a doubt, a spectacular location and one of my favourite parts of the city but I don’t think it served particularly well as a festival site – especially as the event never even took advantage of the actual landing field. Arena Park has a handful of different venues and clubs all located in close proximity and will bode to be an interesting and diverse new playing field for the festival, its acts and revellers.
