Lollapalooza - Berlin - Pattern

The question seems legitimate: does Europe’s party city numero uno need another party? Well, obviously yes, especially since this is a special one. The legendary Lollapalooza Festival is making its debut in the ‘old world’ and picked Berlin as the perfect spot for this premiere. The legendary area of the Tempelhof Airport will host the event on September 12 and 13 which gives that truly unique place another chance to showcase its possibilities as a festival area after the Berlin Festival had to leave the airport in 2014.

Don’t expect the Lollapalooza to be your ordinary music festival because that was never the original idea of founder Perry Farrell back in 1990. It’s meant to be a magical place that combines various artistic forms – music, theatre, visual art and even political topics. Add a certain local flavour to it and you get an idea of what to expect from the event that has been running for years successfully in countries like the US, Chile or Argentina.

Aspect #1: Music for the masses

‘The bigger, the better’, ‘All killer, no filler’ – feel invited to use one of those good old-fashioned phrases when it comes to the actual musical line-up of the 2015 Lollapalooza Berlin. There’s literally something for everyone. If you want rock music’s big players please look forward to MUSE and THE LIBERTINES. If you prefer local acts and want to know what Germany is partying to you’ll get DEICHKIND, SEEED and the almighty BEATSTEAKS. Indie-fans get some special gems like a rare appearance of the FRANZ FERDINAND/ SPARKS mash-up FFS, psychedelic pop institution TAME IMPALA, Scottish evergreens BELLE & SEBASTIAN or the buzzing British shootingstars WOLF ALICE. And if you just want to put your hands up in the air for some solid rave activity you’ll get SKRILLEX and BOYS NOIZE together in the form of DOG BLOOD, big beat elder statesman FATBOY SLIM, indietronic institution HOT CHIP as well as their housey side project THE 2 BEARS. You’ll see… everybody gets something.

Aspect #2: You can bring the whole family

If you’re feeling to old or comfortable to do proper camping in the mud you might be relieved that this isn’t even a plan for the Lollapalooza. Even better… it’s an event for everybody which means you might even bring your children as they will taken care of via the truly unique Kidzapalooza. Yes, kids between 0 and 14 have their own area with special music and art performances for them, special foot, workshops and professionals who take care of them while you are making party with the CRYSTAL FIGHTERS on the festival area. There’s even a space to change diapers. Rock’n’Roll officially reached a new level. Say what you want but the Lollapalooza Berlin embraces the demographic change and its new target group.

Aspect #3: Fashion victims are welcome

In case you’re not only interested in what you’re listening to but also what you look like this event will help you out. Of course, there’s a special Fashionpalooza involved that allows you to discover various local and international brands, labels and other fashion-related things. Maybe you’ll witness the next big fashion thing. We heard that batik dyeing is making a comeback these days.

Aspect #4: Embrace the sustainability

Sustainability is more than a buzzword or at least it should be. So, it’s nice to see that the Lollapalooza Berlin is taking care of that important subject by giving ‘Der Grüne Kiez‘ (‘the green neighbourhood’) a proper space at the festival this year. It’s a little oasis in the festival area that allows you discover various initiatives in the social and environmental sector. Perfect space for those who’d like to get involved in these things and are looking for a trigger to get started. Why not here? Get your city greener, ladies and gentlemen. You won’t regret it.
