Down under/ Up above

For a couple of years know, Hugo Gruzman and James Lyell aka FLIGHT FACILITIES have been part of Australia’s quite vital electro-pop scene, just next to acts like MIAMI HORROR, EMPIRE OF THE SUN or BAG RAIDERS. After great mixtapes (especially their epic ‘Decade Mixes’), even greater remixes and edits and a handful of catchy singles, this album was overdue. Of course, it features the tender hit singles Claire de Lune and Crave You. The latter even with a special version by the one and only KYLIE MINOGUE.

Plane to paradise

Of course, Gruzman and Lyell stick to their concept of being some sort of airline that pilots a world of beautiful pop. The album’s intro welcomes us on board before Two Bodies, a collaboration with Australian singer Emma Louise delivers a first tender piece of electronic pop. The flight continues with a variety of musical ideas. From soulful funk/pop (Sunshine), to finest 80s R&B (Hold Me Down) straight to pretty oldschool-sounding rap (Why Do You Feel). The FLIGHT FACILITIES truly love to take a little detour.

Say ‘no’ to negativity

The feature guests are the big plus of Down To Earth but also the instrumental tracks. Merimbula is a delicate slow burner while Apollo and the title-track deliver feel-good vibes like most parts of the album do. The music of FLIGHT FACILITIES is destined to be played when you want to have a good time. It’s easy going but honest positive dancepop with plenty of pop historical references and no visible edges. If you’re up for that sort of sound you’re happily invited to book your flight.

FLIGHT FACILITIES and their debut LP ‘Down To Earth’ deliver grooving feel-good pop with a variety of guest stars and musical ideas.
