Only a couple of days ago the American wave duo PURE BATHING CULTURE opened for TWIN SISTERS in Seattle and Portland, which tells a lot about their current uprising state as a fresh and interesting newcomer. NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION also featured them on our free sampler Nothing But … Indie-Pop. With their selft-titled debut EP Pure Bathing Culture Sarah Versprille and Daniel Hindman enter the stage of dream pop and in the course of this they are cutting quite a dash. Already released last year the debut is now getting more attention with a world wide release that might help the buzz staying alive until next year brings us the first longplayer of this lovely band.
It seems that moving from New York to Portland brought the essential calmness and vastness to create a compilation of songs that reflect the light swell of the ocean and the impression of hazy and dreamy days that let you forget the temporality. Out of simple ideas like a riff, a snippet of lyrics or a particular sound the two of them complete the image of the track together. As a result the listener receives four songs that are steeped in the elfish voice of the lead singer Sarah, the trembling sounds of her guitarist Dan and the dousing spiritual setting of smooth synths. The well-elaborated and still blurred songs may let you escape the bitter cold of winter by taking you on a trip back to the warm ocean breeze. And we’re pretty sure that PURE BATHING CULTURE might actually provide the soundtrack for our summer days. After such a lovely EP we can’t wait for that to happen.
