KUOKO confronts stereotypes and fetishization Asian women face every day on Yellow Fever Gaze. “I’m not exotic, I am just tired”, the Hamburg-based artist sings. With lines performed in punchy, almost spoken word manner over bright electronic arrangements, KUOKO creates an irresistibly danceable track with an important message. The song, like all KUOKO’s efforts, is self-produced and written, a complete creation of the artist’s creative expression. The tough message displays a sad reality but the colorful video the artist created with the film collective SEOI shows that this is an artist who will not be held back by that. With a bright musical and visual explosion, KUOKO empowers herself and speaks up against patriarchal gazes. Her self-titled debut album drops on October 22 via Kabul Fire Records, so make sure to mark that date in your calenders.
