June 20th is Midsommar. Berlin will have its own Midsommar Festival at Urban Spree. A party with music, flowers, dances, and a lot more. One of the live acts will be Sweden’s SUMMER HEART. David Alexander, the man behind SUMMER HEART, brings the soundtrack for a lazy summer day. The perfect music for Midsommar. NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION now introduces you to the chill dream pop act from Scandinavia.

Tell us something about Midsommar no one outside of Scandinavia knows.
Well. I don’t know that much about the real Midsommar traditions to be honest. I just know that you’re supposed to eat potatoes and some fish or something. And then you’re supposed to sing weird traditional songs and drink liquor shots all afternoon. I’m a vegetarian so I make some other food and drink some good red wine instead. Much better. And yeah. Then everyone goes out in their gardens and hold each others hands and dances around a pole covered with leafs and flowers and sings about funny little frogs. Haha. Seriously. I’m not kidding! And Midsommar can only end one way you know. Everyone totally wasted. Haha.

How would you describe your music to a deaf person?
I would describe it as walking down a travelator by the sea on a sunny but not to hot day. Add a yellow filter and some sand on top of that and you’ll get how my music feels.

Would you rather be a dragon or have a dragon?
Wow. Hard one! It would be cool to be a dragon. But I like being a human. Hmm. If I had a dragon I wouldn’t have time to take care of it. I don’t know really.

If you’re music would be a film how would you describe it? What genre? What actors? Any surprising plot twists?
I think it would be in a bittersweet love drama where the lovers gets each other in the end. Hah. It would be kind of a 90s homemade but still professional looking movie. The actors would be some cool young newcomers. Hopefully Woody Allen would help me directing it.

If you could have alternative jobs – what would it be?
Then I would like to be a writer or maybe a photographer.

Would you rather whisper or shout for the rest of your life?
Shout! Definitely!

If you’d have to choose: which of your senses would you rather lose?
My ability to smell. Hmm. Yeah. Totally the smell.

The music & culture industry is currently about to redefine itself. Do you feel like being completely and utterly at the its mercy, or should things be seen as a chance for artists?
I totally believe it’s a chance for the artists. I mean the Internet has democratized music and culture in an entirely new way. Both to create, share and get inspiration and input is so easy these days. You can get hold of tons of great songs for free on the web which is amazing. The. It comes to the file sharing question. Without file sharing and giving away lots of my songs for free I guess no one would ever have found and started listening to my music. Of course it’s very hard to make money of your music these days. But I guess it always has been hard to make money on music, and it will probably always be. And. It’s actually not about the money it’s all about the music!
