Wikipedia says: “Kami (神) is the Japanese word for the spirits, natural forces, or essence in the Shinto faith.” In this case KAMI is a pop trio from the Côte d’Azur, sounding like a band from Berlin, so nothing with “natural forces” and spiritual stuff. These guys sound pretty mundane, urban and what a surprise: They have recorded this EP called Another Shore in Germany’s capital and end up like sounding like the little brothers of MOUNT WASHINGTON…
KAMI play honest pop music with an indie and electronic twist and vocals drenched with a slight French accent, which makes them quite likeable to me. And to be honest: They have delivered three very nice pop songs here. Especially Cherry Stone and Dance are fresh summer hits for a day with friends on the beach. The rest is quite some minute fillers… The alternative and pretty quiet versions of Let’s Get Insane and Cherry Stone are not bad… But there’s also a bunch of very mediocre remixes; I don’t like the whole idea of recycling a song for a b version. I usually skip them, but don’t blame the band for putting them on the CD. They might be nice as an addition for fans. It’s not my cup of tea, so the real EP ends after 12 minutes for me… 12 minutes of joyous summer feelings, not less and not more!
Check out their nice video of Cherry Stone, showing singer Herve spending a day in Dublin. This is the follow-up to the video for Let’s Get Insane, which was done in Berlin and has been released last year.
