STORIES FROM THE LOST – sounds great, doesn’t it? I like stories and sometimes I feel lost. So I first thought “Hey my stories? Wow?” But no, they are an alternative postrock band from Zottegem, Belgium, that consists of is Marijn Gabriëls on guitars, Wout Lievens on drums, Thijs van Der Linden on bass and Kevin Limpens on guitars. On 6. April the band will release their debut-album For Clouds. The album was recorded by Tobies Stieler, who also recorded KOKOMO (he also drums in this band). Important to note: the album will be released at this years DUNK!FESTIVAL – the European postrock-festival (which is presented by Nothing But Hope And Passion btw)…
But let’s talk about the album, For Clouds. The intro, Cryosphere, is ambient-electro touched and does not really make you think of a great postrock album. But as soon as August II starts you know that this is a postrock-output that is of very high-quality. And it goes on with TR16 – a monster of a postrock song. Crossing Fields is one of my personal favorite song on For Clouds, since it creates an amazing atmosphere with electronic soundscapes. The next song, Tyrannosaur comes with great mid-tempo riffs that make you feel like a dinosaur that walks through the suburbs of a big city. And it goes on with a song that starts quite hard and has rather friendly mid-part. The song titled Plains Runner and at the first listen the song may seem not outstanding. But be aware of underrating this song! Listen to the song another time and you will fall in love.
Only two more songs. Vocaloid starts as a great ambient-electro track and suddenly becomes a rather fast and aggressive song. It feels like driving with you car along the roads and suddenly you realize that someone follows you…and you drive faster and faster, to escape. The last song is the title-track, For Clouds, and is with almost 7 minutes the longest song on the album. The song remains quite and is beautiful from the very beginning on. A song to watch the clouds move to. A song to fall in love. An album to fall in love. Seriously. Great stories from the lost. A great debut-album by STORIES FROM THE LOST. Watch out for this band!
