Time to introduce you to Swedish duo IBERIA. Maja Milner and Alexander Palmestål, who currently live in Berlin and Gothenburg, create a sound that is atmospheric, wild, and modern at the same time. Electronic music mixed with influences from various other genres. Maja’s voice sometimes reminds of a singing whale (which is meant in the most positive way!) and perfectly fits to the hard beats. Songs with different layers, dreamy but danceable, hard but soft… At this year’s SPOT Festival NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION met IBERIA.
SPOT Festival is a starting point for what comes next: What comes next?
M: Have to find an apartment and get some holiday.
A: I´m gonna watch the new Godzilla Movie
How would you describe your music to a deaf person?
M: I would write ‘I’m sorry that you can never hear music again’ on a piece of paper. It would be very egoistic if I only tried to describe my own.
A: As loud as the roar of Godzilla and as heavy as the force of Godzilla
What is your main motivation when you write new songs?
M: Changes in life
A: I don’t have any motivations when I make music, thats why I do it.
Would you rather whisper or shout for the rest of your life?
M. I would be silent.
A: Be rich
Would you rather be a dragon or have a dragon?
M: Have one. To ride on!
A: One of favorite movie as a kid was ‘Peters Dragon’. Peter seemed to have god damn hassle keeping that dragon a secret from everyone but the dragon was just having a blast eating apples and chilling out so based on that I would say I’d rather be a dragon.
If you’d have to choose: which of your senses would you rather lose?
M: Smelling, 50 % of the time I smell something I don’t like it anyway.
A: Feeling, it’s an emotional thing anyway.
The music & culture industry is currently about to redefine itself. Do you feel like being completely and utterly at the its mercy, or should things be seen as a chance for artists?
M. Never thought about it. But it’s not often that it’s a ‘chance for the artist’ the music scene is like everything else at the moment, like Meja said: It’s all ’bout the money. It’s all ’bout the dum dum…
A: As long as it does not keep me from watching the new Godzilla movie I really don’t care.
