Tuvaband are artists of the austere. The Norwegian-English (Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser and Simon Would) duo specialise in music stripped back to the skeleton, songs made from hushed guitars and simple piano lines, gently looped around each other to create an atmosphere that’s pure spectral grace. Into that atmosphere steps Marschhäuser’s vocal, a voice loaded with shivering vulnerability, that gives these songs their extra layer of power. After a series of singles, they’re now releasing their debut EP Mess, and we’ve got the exclusive premiere for you here at NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION.

The band say:

We are very happy to finally be able to share more of our songs with the world. Making this EP, forming older and new songs, has been both fun, but also a big learning process. We’ve learnt how to create the sound we want, with help from Jonas Kjølstad, the sound designer/mixer. In the start we were describing what we wanted, but during the process we thought it would be more fun and productive to try ourselves.

On the song Eventually Silence we did the sound design and raw mixing, and had Jonas to do the fine-mixing. We were trying to create a sound that’s like a mix between Bon Iver’s For Emma, Forever Ago, Alice Boman and Lisa Cranner. The tracks were recorded a while ago in each of our apartments, and the title track Mess was the first song we made together back in 2015, so it’s about time for a release.

Mess is out on November 1st on Brilliance.
