There is something about the age of seventeen. In between the euphoria of sweet sixteen and early adulthood anxiety of eighteen, the age has been sung about by many musicians. Now Charli Adams reminisces on her experiences of leaving home for the first time on Seventeen Again. Driven by guitar strums and vocal harmonies, the song is about the restlessness of never wanting to stay in one place for long.
Written by the Alabama native in collaboration with the Welsh artist Novo Amor, Seventeen Again captures a range of emotions from teenage angst to eagerness and excitement for life. Looked at through the lens of the artist as a youngster wandering through a foreign city with a shitty camera phone, buying postcards, the single is the kind of happy sad that one can feel reminiscing about the intensity and newness with which emotions still hit at the age of seventeen. The track is the fourth release preceding Charli Adams’ new record Bullseye, out on July 16.
“I remember feeling the way that I did when I left home for the first time at seventeen and moved to Nashville, and that was the inspiration behind the song. It’s definitely not in my nature to stay in one place for too long and I find myself fantasizing about moving away far too often. The song follows my familiar thought process of walking around a foreign city imagining what it would be like to never go home.”
