After the BLOC PARTY album is before another KELE OKEREKE solo album. The singer/songwriter make sure that this rule also applies in 2017. Following 2016’s Hymns album by his band he has now started teasing his third solo full-length with a gentle Yemaya. And while his previous solo output has been quite electronic and dancefloor-focussed this new track shows a more delicate side of OKEREKE. He explains its origins via the following press statement:

‘In the west African Yoruba religion, Yemaya is the mother goddess of the ocean, she is kinda the patron saint of pregnant women and fertility. According to myth, when her waters broke, it caused a great flood creating rivers and streams and the first mortal humans were created from her womb. When I knew we were having a baby she started to be appear in my thoughts and dreams a fair bit.’

The follow-up to this 2014 LP Trick hasn’t got a release date yet but since he’s about to embark on a small solo acoustic tour we can expect more gentle sounds like this one in the not so distant future. Don’t forget to also read NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s latest interview with the man right here.
