We must admit that we fell for the idea of young, innovative, contemporary classical music a while ago. Lucky us that on a regular basis some good working labels feed us some more of these exciting new acts. There’s a certain vibe that emerges from the work of artists like ÓLAFUR ARNALDS (with whose latest outfit KIASMOS we recently spoke) or NILS FRAHM from the ERASED TAPES-family, as well as more experimental outlets around Denovali Records-artists like THE KILIMANJARO DARKJAZZ ENSEMBLE. Especially DENOVALI’s yearly Swingfest is a real treat to the more adventurous ears. Nonetheless, they know how to implement soothing neo-classical musicians into their roster as well. And that’s where CARLOS CIPA comes in.

The young artist from Munich is obviously one of those few that manage to transcend the magic of classical music in a way that’s grounded, direct, digestible and simply put: mesmerizing. His new song And Gently Drops The Rain doesn’t need that much time to suck you into CARLOS CIPA‘s world. Judging by his music it’s a world of playful melancholia; a place where things are basically not that sunny but there’s beauty in the not so obvious things. These four and half minute of And Gently Drops The Rain feel like a – sorry for the cliché-imagery – a dream-sequence in which the pittoresque classics (Mozart, Debussy) are cited alongside minimalistic geniuses (Steve Reich). But most important: it is quite a beautiful piece of music.

CARLOS CIPA‘s second full-length All Your Life You Walk is set to be released on November the 21st – meanwhile, we’re glad to fuel the excitement a little with And Gently Drops The Rain.
