COMPUTER MAGIC is the moniker, borrowed from a SPINAL TAP quote, used by New York producer Danielle Johnson. She’s marked herself out as a talented synth-pop musician with a series of excellent EPs over the last few years. Her last release was 2014’s Extra Stuff EP, and now she’s back with new song Shipwrecking.
Shipwrecking opens with a kinetic drum beat that drives the song on for the duration, and synths that give it an odd, swaying momentum. Johnson’s vocals flicker through reverb and echo while she works her way though lyrics about collapse and decay (‘Can’t you see, reality, is slipping away’) and disconnection (‘honestly, I can’t find my place’). Shipwrecking is taken from COMPUTER MAGIC’s brand new EP, Dreams Of Better Days, which is out now.
