Who is it?
Swedish musician TOVE STYRKE, a former Idol contestant who reimagined herself and returned to music with the thunderbolt pop of her 2015 album Kiddo. Now she’s back with the first new music since that record, her new single Say My Name.
Why should you listen to it?
Whereas on Kiddo Styrke showcased her talent for high-octane power pop, on Say My Name she takes things in a more breezy, slick direction. Built on a sparky riff and and a minimalistic beat, Say My Name is all about its rhythm and kinetics, a song that builds a smooth groove out of its stripped back elements. That mimimalism also allows the focus to fall on Styrke’s vocals and melodies, and she’s never sounded better, wrapping her voice around the words to make them bounce and spring exactly the way she wants. On the song, she says: ‘I have not written about love before because I didn’t want to write another love song. But I have changed. I am tired of being angry, right now I just need to make music that makes me feel good’. There’s no news of a new album yet, but if she’s got more songs as good as Say My Name we can’t wait to hear them.
