One of our favorite shoegaze finds ever, EROS AND THE ESCHATON, has covered a song for the Bar None Summer Sampler. Now, if there’s one thing we love more than classic early 1970s Nashville country, it’s a cover of that by one of the most inventive duos of recent memory. The original track has swelling strings and LYNN ANDERSON’s classic country twang.  Known for I Never Promised You a Rose Garden, one of the  most successful country crossover hits of all time, ANDERSON had a number 3 ranking on the Billboard Country Charts with Cry.

With this track EROS AND THE ESCHATON take a classic and add some spaced out guitars and keyboards, making the lyric ‘You’ll feel better if you cry…’ more bittersweet and plaintive than the original.  Reminiscent of SONIC YOUTH‘s heartbreaking cover of Superstar, this a short but sweet tune to add to your wistful summer playlist. Go ahead, cry, you WILL feel better.
