Seven Songs with Linkoban - 2014

LINKOBAN just released her new EP The Pomelo Edition via Volcano. With this the Danish artist brings a sound that definitely has everything to break through and make her big like M.I.A. There are British influences, dirty breakbeats, nasty bass sounds and of course raps. Music that will make you dance and party. But what are LINKOBAN‘s influences? NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION talked to her to find it out.

Below you can stream LINKOBAN‘s new EP The Pomelo Edition. And on the following pages you’ll find the seven female rap songs that inspire her. Enjoy!

Enjoy LINKOBAN‘s seven favorite female rap songs, that influenced her as a musician, on the following pages.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: PTAP – Boss Ass Bitch

I dig this track for its minimal, raw beat and the boss ass bitches. I love how rowdily unpretentious the girls are with their lazy flows and hood attitude. If I had to chose to be a part of a girl group – this would be it.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: DIE ANTWOORD – Cookie Thumper

Everything about Yolandi Vi$$er is awesome. She’s like a sexy little worm with a deadly Afrikaans flow. Her voice is sharp like a knife and I love watching her whole apperance. Also, the Die Antwoord visual universe is crazy good.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: AMPLIFY DOT – Get Down

Female rappers usually come with heavy sexual attitudes and over–explicit lyrics. Amplify Dot was one of the first UK rappers I listened to and got inspired by because she’s cool just being herself. I admire that.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: NJENA REDD FOXX – Silly Bitch

Njena Reddd Foxx, also member of Zebra Katz – cool chick with this odd violent mystery to her. And then I’m really down with the beat produced by Branko.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: BLAQSTARR feat. M.I.A – Lemme Hump You

M.I.A is the female artist I’m always compared to, which I take as a compliment. She’s one of the most original females out there with the ability to keep it solidly underground while roaming the mainstream charts.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: ENVY – Tongue Twister

Another UK rapper – a lyrical genius and totally superior flow-wise. ENVY was definitely one of the rappers that inspired me in the beginning. She’s cocky and has this “fuck you” attitude towards the music industry, which is refreshing.

One of the seven female rap songs that inspire LINKOBAN: AZEALIA BANKS feat PHARELL – ATM Jam

In my opinion, Azealia Banks is one of the most progressive ones out there at the moment. She’s a playful badass with a sick flow – a squirting volcano.
