It’s been five years since beloved Swedish indie-pop sweetheart JENS LEKMAN released his last album I Know What Love Isn’t. Now, the wait for a follow-up is finally over. Life Will See You Now is about to arrive next month already, on February 17 via Secretly Canadian, to be more specific. And once again the music of the charismatic Swede is packed with plenty of bittersweet stories as he explains in the press release:
I wrote about being close to someone who’s seriously ill but not knowing exactly how close you are. About that first big fight in a relationship. About a wedding I once played where I had to do some last minute counseling. About choosing who you want to be with. About a perfume that’s been haunting me for years and the memory attached to this perfume. About a mormon missionary I once met. About figuring out why you’re here on earth. About the bridges you cross and how they burn behind you.

Life Will See You Now was produced by Ewan Pearson and that might also explain the undeniable clubby dance vibe of its first single What’s That Perfume That You Wear? which is also up for stream via a colourful music video.
A second single arrives in the form of Evening Prayer which is another grooving tune that tells the story about a guy who prints a 3D model of a tumor removed from his body. Yes, you read that correctly. Mr. LEKMAN on the quite odd lyrical setting in a press statement:
‘The idea of printing out something that’s as scary as a tumor into its concrete form was something that spoke to me. There is something very liberating about that idea. I think a lot of my anxieties and fears are things that are very abstract. Of the times that I’ve been able to overcome a fear, it’s been by making it something that I can understand, that I can hold on to — just something that’s more tangible.’
