PATRIK JAKUBOWSKI‘s day job finds him in Swedish experimental rock trio RIDDARNA, but his solo work has taken him down a different path. His début EP Ocean sees Jakubowski explore a folkier sound, culling the instrumentation down to just vocals and guitar. The songs on Ocean are stripped back and exposed, Jakubowski’s voice taking centre stage, supported only by some nimble acoustic fretwork. Songs like Belonging Everywhere show off Jakuboski’s talent for innovative harmonies, while title track Ocean reveals his fascination with nature-based lyrics. It’s easy to imagine these melodies in the more rocky context of RIDDARNA, but they work equally well in this gentle, more earthy imagining. Ocean is out on November 18th on Swedish label Novoton.
