Sound of the Night: Soak – ‘Sea Creatures’

Age ain’t nothing but a number. The young talent from Ireland continues to fascinate us with every new piece she’s releasing.

What do we talk about when we talk about love? It’s hard to know and definitely a confusing concept for most of us. Including aged optimists and bright eyed hopeless romantics. Sea Creatures the new track from SOAK shows how an 18 year old understands more than the rest of us. But it isn’t smug, its sweet informative and exactly everything a love tale should be.

Sea Creatures sits between confident pessimism and youthful hope. The difference is in the lyrics. ‘I don’t know what to say/it might make you worse.’ Sea Creatures considers the second party, the oft forgotten second voice in a love song. The lyrics a masterpiece and the vocals even more so. Hailing for Northern Ireland, SOAK has that catchy sweet yet sharp Irish twang to her vocals. These vocals juxtaposed with the dreamy melody reveal the heartbreak within. Sea Creatures is a song created for long  beach walks, bittersweet heartbreaks and early morning commutes.

We were blown away by her recent performance at Eurosonic Noorderslag and it’s easy to see why SOAK is making waves. Pun most definitely intended. Her anticipated debut album is set for a release later in 2015. Until then join us for a swim right here
