Context?

We brought you SOCIETYs single Protocol in August, a slick, sweeping piece of baroque-pop. For the video for their new release, The Fear The Hate, the band really put the effort in. They recruited guerilla film-making collective What Took You So Long and sent them to Beirut in Lebanon to film the ‘You Stink’  protests, which kicked off when a waste disposal crisis left garbage piling up on the city’s streets.

Why Should I Watch This?

The Fear The Hate has a sense of highbrow glam about it, a lush pop track that wouldn’t sound out of place on a LAST SHADOW PUPPETS record. The lyrics drip with dark tension, one that sits well amongst the occasionally bloody scenes in the video. It’s not just riot porn however, as the filmmakers also seek to capture a flash of the demonstrators’ lives outside of the protests, as they party, club and hit the beach.

Anything Else?

The Fear The Hate is out now on Luv Luv Luv Records, and SOCIETY‘s début album is due out sometime next year.
