I think we could all agree on that the music business – regardless of its ugly sides – is based upon the hard work of passionate people that care about music more than money. Unfortunately, they often don’t get the attention they deserve as the big names and players cover things up with their generic content. To change that, the German association of independent music companies (VUT) has decided to dedicate a price to exactly those artists and business people who are passionate about their music in the first place – a spirit we at NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION definitely share.

For the first time embedded in the currently happening Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, the most dedicated indie artists have been honoured at the VIA! Awards (the VUT Indie Awards) yesterday at the Schmidts Tivoli. Despite from having a good party there, we obviously attended the event to give you an insight into this side of the business, that’s not all about pure glamour, red carpets and gossip. Read the winners of the five main categories below and check out the other special prices that were given to those who really deserve them due to their engagement for a lively (sub-)cultural scene. We highly recommend to check out the artists and label people as listed below.

Berlin in the 80s – must have been a magic place and time. The film B-movie centers around the special vibe back then in the late 70s and 80s, where everything seemed possible.

Also part of our list, Die Nerven took home the award for best act – an absolutely deserved prize for the probably most exciting German rock act right now.

Best Album: Malky – ‘Soon’

The Leipzig based duo were hailed for their album ‘Soon’ – one that opened up many doors for them recently and in that sense a fair and right choice.
