There’s nothing wrong about a good ride. And we don’t mean the obvious interpretation in form of a ride on a lonely highway. Sometimes a good ride can also happen musically. All it needs is a good record, one with a warm red line that runs through its entire duration. Or a selection of solid tunes that somehow magically work together – even if they come from different direction. It’s a question of taste, characteristics and dramaturgy. If all goes well together you’re gonna have a good time. And with our latest NBHAP Guestmix you surely will.

This time British duo BIRDPEN – aka Dave Pen and Mike Bird – contributed a selection of their all-time favourites that just happen to work perfectly together in this combination. Tender but also powerful indie rock moments dominate the band’s sophomore album Global Lows. A record that spreads solace with in a dark environment or as the two musicians state it: “It’s like standing at the end of the world with a smile on your face.”

On their distinctive mix BIRDPEN say: “The selection of tunes and samples we have chosen come from what has and continues to inspire BIRDPEN. It ranges from freak out guitar psychedelia, sorrowful lonelyness, electronic groove, cinematic instrumentals and the darkness that lurks under the floorboards. Basically we don’t do fixed genres, so these songs all have their own doom groove quality to them which makes us feel inspired in some way. We hope you enjoy the ride because it is ‘just a Ride’.”
