If you name your band ‘Dunkel’ (which is the German word for ‘dark’) you can’t just make fluffy-puffy BEACH BOYS pop, you have to aim for a more sinister setting. And it looks like Swedish trio DNKL made the right choice, even without the vowels. The music of last year’s debut EP Wolfhour delivers a hopeful darkness which is also packed with a lot of warmth, even in its coldest moments. Sounds strange but makes sense. Just watch the band’s recently released new music video and you’ll get an understanding of that concept.

And since DNKL are about to perform at the forthcoming Ja Ja Ja Club Night in Berlin on February the 12th we thought it would be the perfect timing to have them on board for their very own NBHAP Guestmix. And again, it’s obviously not a happy-go-lucky one but still quite surprising. But why should we be left with the honour of explaining it to you? Here’s what the band has to say about its selection

‘For this mix we picked a few songs from our personal playlists and a couple of tracks we have listened to the most in the last weeks. Some old songs that we never get tired of and some new songs that left a mark. It is indeed a pretty big variety of styles and genres with a mix of great pop songs, hypnotic tech tracks and flirty house beats. We felt like dancing, again. All of them are in some way or another inspiring us in our own creative process. Enjoy!’

We truly have nothing to add to those words so get ready to enter the musical microcosm of DNKL right here.
