The story of the NEW RADICALS was a short but intense one. Out of the late 90s college rock scenery the band around frontman Gregg Alexander quickly emerged in 1997, released one album and then basically split up two years later. The hype around their still quite famous debut hit single You Get What You Give might have been a bit too much for Mr. Alexander who was never interested in any mainstream stardom and heavy rotation on MTV. And that itself is quite a shame because Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too, the only full-length release by the NEW RADICALS was packed with really great and well-written alternative pop songs. The critically underrated second single Someday We’ll Know is such a fine example of late 90s nostalgia that takes us right back to the days before the internet, YouTube and Spotify… which doesn’t help the song to sound less melancholic, we must say.

It’s never too late to discover that record. And don’t worry about Mr. Alexander. He later became an acclaimed songwriter for other artists. I mean, he wrote Life Is A Rollercoaster by RONAN KEATING – what else do you want? And he even got an Oscar nomination in 2015, so he indeed got what he gave if you allow us that pun.
