After spending a couple of years in the studio THE XX have recently started teasing what seems to be first music off their anticipated third studio album. Now, following a leak of information earlier this week, the group has officially announced its new LP I See You. The follow-up to 2012’s Coexist arrives on January 13 via Young Turks. The announcement also comes with a short statement by the trio:

‘After many years, close together, far apart, great highs, deep lows, heartache and healing, we are so happy to let you know we are releasing our 3rd album ‘I See You’ on January 13th 2017. We realise these are uncertain times and we hope the joy and love we found making the record will find its way out into the world, in however small a way.’

The akbum is a co-production between JAMIE XX himself, and Rodaidh McDonald. According to the press release it was recorded between March 2014 and August 2016 in New York, Marfa in Texas, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London. A first single comes in the form of the grooving and surprisingly bright sounding On Hold which is up for stream below and does indeed sample the 1981 HALL & OATES classic I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) because – why not?

UPDATE 28/11/16: THE XX now shared a truly uplifting music video for On Hold which was shot in Marfa, Texas, featuring the band, a lot of friends and fans having an obviously good time. Here’s what the trio has to say about the clip:

‘The video is directed by the brilliant Alasdair McLellan, whose work we all adore… It was filmed in Marfa, Texas, a very special place to us, where we wrote and recorded some of our new album. We have a lot of love and respect for the people of the USA, having played hundreds of shows across the country over the past years. We hope this video reflects just some of the warmth and acceptance we have encountered there’
