12 Years A Slave

The highly anticipated nominees for the 86th Annual Academy Awards have been announced today. The field of it is led by space drama Gravity and American Hustle who scored ten nominations each. It is followed by critically acclaimed slave drama 12 Years A Slave from director Steve McQueen. He’s also up for the director’s award, next to Alfonso Cuarón or legendary Martin Scorsese. The male lead actor category sees Leonardo DiCaprio competing against Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. The actress category comes with Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep who received her 18th(!) Oscar nomination.

And if you’re into soundtracks you’ll find some familiar names in these categories. The ‘Best Original Song’ categories sees Irish rock legends U2 fighting against r’n’b star PHARELL WILLIAMS and YEAH YEAH YEAHS‘ singer Karen O.
