Who is it?

You might not associate the cello with pop music, but Sweden’s LINNEA OLSSON manages to make it work. Across two albums (2012’s Ah! and 2014’s Breaking And Shaking) along with multiple collaborations with the likes of PETER GABRIEL and ANE BRUN, she’s managed to bring the instrument into the 21st century.

Why should you listen to it?

On her new single Hall Of Tragedy, Olsson crafts a powerful, driving pop song. The cello almost works the way we would expect the synth to in a convention pop song, giving the song a shape that Olsson can build around. She lays a dramatic vocal over the top to make one of the most stylish, inventive songs we’ve heard in a while.

What’s next?

Hall Of Tragedy is out on February 10th. Her new EP For Show is out on February 24th.

Everyday we’re adding NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s Daily Tune to our ongoing Spotify playlist, packed with all the hidden treasures by those talented newcomers you need to know. Listen and follow right here.
