With Desire Lines (out June 4th 2013 via 4AD) Glasgow’s finest CAMERA OBSCURA are back with their fifth album. The album, which was produced by Tucker Martine (R.E.M. SPOON, MY MORNING JACKET), shows that CAMERA OBSCURA never stand still and took the next step in their never-ending development.

The band’s career started with the help of BELLE & SEBASTIAN‘s Stuart Murdoch, who financed the first CAMERA OBSCURA album and also helped to record some things in the studio. Within a very short time CAMERA OBSCURA became the critic’s favorites and within some years they managed to build up a huge fan base all over the world. With their new album, Desire Lines, they should now finally step out of the shadow and make it really big. If not then something is really wrong with this world.

Singer Tracyanne Campell told: “Of all our records this was pretty much the most challenging to write, partly because of the situation we found ourselves in with having to take such a long and uncertain amount of time out, but also because it would be record number five and we were getting harder and harder to please. Working in the US with southern gentleman Tucker Martine was a positive experience. He brought a certain calmness to recording that wasn’t there before. We were also delighted to have NEKO CASE and JIM JAMES sing on the record too. What a treat.”

Yes, NEKO CASE and JIM JAMES can be heard on CAMERA OBSCURA‘s Desire Lines! But this is not the only reason why Desire Lines should be heard, because it is a great album in every way. Especially for warm summer days and evenings, no matter if rainy or not, this is the right music to dream away to. The song Fifth In Line To The Throne (with backing vocals by legendary NEKO CASE), a beautiful ballad from Desire Lines, can now be streamed and downloaded. Tracyanne Campell explains “Fifth In Line To The Throne is a song about someone in a seemingly perfect relationship but there is a dark underside to it. We wanted to sound menacing and give folk the creeps. I believe Princess Beatrice is fifth in line by the way.”.

Listen to the song, think who is the fifth in line and make sure that you aren’t the one. And last but not least check out CAMERA OBSCURA‘s Desire Lines. You’ll probably fall in love with it!
