Sfir - Große Welt

The golden rule: If you follow the footsteps of your heroes you better do it good. Berlin-based post-punk outfit SFIR did so for its latest music video (Der Geruch von) Große Welt (which you can translate as ‘the smell of the big world’). The song itself is finest wave/noise material and despite its title not entirely written in German. The accompanying clip is inspired by Anton Corbijn’s 2007 JOY DIVISION biopic Control which makes total sense since the music heads for the same direction.

The reduced black and white video clip is a perfect example of how much you can do with a minimum of investment. It was shot in the apartment of SFIR singer and bassist Max Stern with the screenplay written by the entire band. And drummer Constantin did the camera and editing of the clip as well. You see – this is pure DIY spirit. Follow the protagonist, played by Elia Patrizi as he’s facing his own mirror image while getting lost in a state between fantasy and reality. SFIR will release their debut EP Große Welt on July 17 and are also playing a release show at Berlin’s Monarch one day earlier. If you love sinister post-punk anthems you’ll heavily enjoy this world premiere on NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION.
