You think Texas music is limited to acoustic country guitars and cowboys who have the blues? Listen to BLACKSTONE RNGRS and find out that you are wrong. In 2012 the Texas-based trio got regional esteem for their debut EP Into the Sea and today they release their second work, a six track EP called Descendant, through Saint Marie Records.
The band’s name might call lonesome riding nature-boys to mind, but their synthgaze music sounds like those cowboys had some psychedelic pills. BLACKSTONE RNGRS go with you for a ride through a pastel desert where the hazy sound of synthesizers and mirages of noise pop create a dreamy atmosphere. But before you drift away completely, the drum of Daniel Bornhorst takes you back, so that you can enjoy Ruth Smith’s breathy singing, settling on Derek Kutzer’s cautious guitar-playing, with full consciousness. Above all lingers a touch of melancholy and longing.
BLACKSTONE RNGRS also plan a tour, so keep your eyes open to get the chance to see the band live.
Until then NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION provides you with an exclusive stream of Descendant. Enjoy the ride.
