Who is it?
LA CORNEILLE, three talented musicians from Utrecht, the Netherlands. The band released a quiet and calm debut folk album titled I Was A Bird in 2015, which was garnished with subtle influences of electronic and rock music. Their new EP Rattlesnakes, if not a 180-degree turn, marks a significant expansion of sonical palette.
Why should you listen to it?
Second single Hurt You is probably the most restrained of the four tracks on the EP. Centered around Guy Corneille‘s distinctive baritone, the song bridges the stylistic distance to their earlier material, transferring the intimacy of their debut album into a baroque-pop soundscape. Piano, pizzicato strings and a driving, but controlled drum beat lead the track into a melodic, but equally engaging build-up. It is this play with dynamics and sprinkly melodies that sets Hurt You apart from the more progressive-oriented Unconditional, the brash Eli and the somber Woman Of The Light.
