Who is it?

This isn’t the first time we’ve brought you news of LUMIKIDE, and it won’t be the last. The Norwegian five-piece (Birgitta Alida Hole, Martin Miguel Almagro Tonne, Alf Hulbækmo, Axel Skalstad and freshly added bassist Jonas Krøvel) released a single called Explorers And Destroyers back in February, and we instantly added it to our Daily Tune section. Four months on and they’ve put out a new EP, Birthmark, and we have another song to bring you, Golden.

Why should you listen to it?

Golden isn’t exactly a new song. It was first released as a single last year, but we felt it’s worth revisiting again. Starting out with a flash of colourful synths that echo Bankrupt! era PHOENIX, Golden is probably the most euphorically poppy moment on the EP. As with most of the songs on the EP, it’s a real musician’s track, full of little details and flourishes that make it stand out. But what makes this song special is sheer sugar rush of the chorus, one that leaps out of the bleakness of the verse and crashes straight into the stratosphere. That pop power, the musical intelligence on display and the cocktail of uncertainty and excitement in the lyric and vocal is a potent formula, and here it results in a song that makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. LUMIKIDE have made something magical here: as we said, we’ll be talking about them a lot more in future.

What’s next?

LUMIKIDE‘s new EP Birthmark is packed full of similarly clever, innovative pop, and it’s out now.

Everyday we’re adding NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s Daily Tune to our ongoing Spotify playlist, packed with all the hidden treasures by those talented newcomers you need to know. Listen and follow right here.
