‘Girlie’ is a media and fashion phenomenon of the 1990s, in which women chose to dress and behave in an especially feminine style, such as wearing pink, dressing in skirts and dresses, and engaging in activities which are associated with the traditional gender role of a girl.
The advent of GIRLIE is closely linked to the formation and the discovery of the Riot Grrrl movement, a post-feminist alternative music movement within the punk and grunge scene. Who knows if those three handsome guys from Berlin we’re talking about here – girlie – had this in mind when forming a band earlier this year, but it’s very likely they did. All in their early twenties’ post-adolescent phase, where fun and and frustration become ‘partners in emotional crime’, GIRLIE refuses to adhere to one specific genre, mixing elements of punk and indie-rock with an infectious energy evident in their live show.
Today, NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION proudly presents GIRLIE‘s first music video GY. For those of you who are lucky enough to find themselves in good ol’ Berlin this weekend, go and check dem girls live this Saturday at Cassette Store Day Germany.
The band’s 4-track debut EP was released on October 2nd via Späti Palace.
