How did the collaboration with Jean Deaux on ‘Woozey’ come about? It’s excellent but it’s a strange hook-up?
Dave: A friend of mine is really into young MCs and rap and he’s always playing me stuff. And then we just asked her (laughs) We went to New York for a few days. We were originally going to do a few tracks for her for her first mix tape actually, and we did a couple and put one on our EP.
Lets go through some of our ‘either or’ questions… Would you rather whisper or shout for the rest of your life?
Dave: (whispering) Whisper.
Joe: Yeah, whisper. People get really pissed when you shout.
Dave: I’m really bad at shouting; I think I sound weird when I shout.
Joe: When we play, we’d have to turn all the instruments down to hear your vocals…A really small drum kit.
Would you rather press pause or rewind on your life right now?
Joe: Pause as in everything stops forever or stay in this right now? So nothing moves forward or everything stays as it is? Or everything just stops?
Dave: These are meant to be simple questions! (laughs)
Joe: No, but I’m confused! If I press pause now will I just be sitting here not moving?
No no, you can move, you’re just in this state.
Joe: Okay…. If you press rewind, I’d only have twenty-five years worth of life, if I’d press pause I could live for eternity.
Dave: I think I’d press pause. I love right now. It’s pretty sweet.
Joe: I’d press pause too. We’re in agreement, this never happens. So from now on in Berlin, we’re going to be whispering on pause.
Would you rather be a dragon or have a dragon?
Joe: Whoa… I could be your dragon. (points at Dave)
Dave: That’s it; Joe can be my dragon.
Joe: That would be amazing.
Dave: ‘Cause I’d love to have a dragon…
Joe: And I’d love to be a dragon. Perfect. I’d cook you chicken and make you marshmallows on a stick.
Would you rather have fingers the size of legs or legs the size of fingers?
Dave: Both sound incredibly inconvenient. Fingers the size of legs, you’d be like some kind of mega spider…
Joe: I reckon legs the size of fingers, cause then you could be in a wheelchair. You’d still be able to do stuff. If you had ten more legs…you’d just be everywhere.
Dave: Imagine how fast you’d be.
Joe: But they’re not legs, they’re fingers the size of legs…
Dave: … oh… yeah. No one would mess with you; you’d never get mugged. I could play ten guitars at the same time, really big guitars.
Joe: I think I’d go for small legs, personally.
Dave: Okay, one of each then.
Joe: What? No, not one of each! (laughs) One huge hand and one tiny leg; that would be terrible.
Dave: You say that now, but as soon as you have those tiny little finger legs you’d just be so sad. I’d have to carry you everywhere with my big hand. I’d do that for you.
And lastly, what do hope and passion mean to you?
Dave: Hope is one of my best friend’s middle names. Poppy’s middle name is Hope.
Joe: Oh yeah, so that’s important.
Dave: So it means friendship.
Joe: Passion’s important too. Passion fruit. Oh, delicious. Poppy and passion fruit … friends and fruit.
