Rough Trade Shop

It was about time. After months of debates it looks like the international release day for record releases will finally become Friday all over the world. As Billboard reports the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the official representative of labels worldwide, confirmed that decision after a study around consumers and labels found out that the weekend is the best time for buying and enjoying the actual music.

And it might also help to prevent pirating. Frances Moore, head of the IFPI, says: ‘An aligned global release day puts an end to the frustration of not being able to access releases in their country when the music is available in another country.’

The change will officially happen this summer with a specific date yet to be announced. Maybe it will motivate us all to visit our local record shop a bit more often, right?
