Queer rap icon MYKKI BLANCO reports back with High School Never Ends, a potential first teaser off his yet untitled new studio album. And even better – the track features French pop performer WOODKID who produced the song and also sings the hook on it.
The video, directed by Matt Lambert, is also pretty impressive. Set in a small German village it Germany it features an updated version of the old Romeo & Juliet theme, this time with a tragic queer love story twist. It’s based on the conflict between a black family and a skinhead one and according to the director and BLANCO it also addresses the current refugee crisis in Europe.
‘It never once overtly comments on orientation or race, but only ideas of ‘us’ and ‘them’,’ explains the director while MYKKI BLANCO adds: ‘I had once thought Europe was my safe haven from American white supremacy, and how wrong I became.’ This is definitely a music video you should not miss.
