New Found Land - 2016

Swedish songwriter Anna Roxenholt aka NEW FOUND LAND is about to return with her fourth album Lore later this month and today NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is happy to bring you the worldwide premiere of Chateau, the latest music video off the new record. The grooving synthpop piece might please all fans of ROBYN and early THE KNIFE (when they weren’t so abstract) and the clip will satisfy those of you who like psychedelic colours and arty paintins which is no coinsidence as director Sophia Söderqvist points out in the following statement:

My first thought was to make a video that looked like abstract painting, inspired by the German painter Gerhard Richter. I wanted to base the video on a single shot with Anna’s face and different color fields flowing in and out, a fairly minimalist idea. However, both Anna and I soon realized that her song required a little more ‘action’, and looking at the artwork for Anna’s new album (with paintings by the Japanese artist Kei Imazu), I came to think of Salvador Dali. So the whole video is actually based on various paintings by Dali. Some things are pure theft, but most of it are my own interpretations or remakes. There is no clear storyline in the video, but I have my own structure that evolves around the four elements and this also fits well with the song. In the end the concept ‘less is more’ turned into ‘more is more, is more’. Why hold it back?

From what we see Roxenholt and Söderqvist can get away with the visual overload. Lore arrives on May 27 and NEW FOUND LAND will also play a release concert on the same day the Berghain cantina in Berlin which you should not miss. But for now, let’s just enjoy the Chateau clip right here.
