The link between creativity technology and the commitment to community and global communication stand at the forefront of SONAR FESTIVAL and NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is thrilled to be attending this year and covering the festivities online for our readers.
Since its inception, the festival has been split into two parts: Sonar By Day and Sonar by Night, both of which have different locations within Barcelona. In keeping with its urban festival reputation, the event has moved around the city to make the most out of its infrastructure whilst exploring new capacities. Sónar by Day, located from 2013 in Fira Montjuïc, with concerts and DJ sets showcasing new talent, and the larger shows at Sónar by Night, in Fira Gran Via de L’Hospitalet, where the leading names in the current international music scene are staged.

Thursday night sees TRENTEMØLLER and NILS FRAHM; kicking off the festival in the early evening,; PLASTIKMAN I ONJEKT and BEN FROST carry the evening’s festivities and the night closes with an unparalleled immersive experience with James Murphy and 2MANYDJS. Over the course of the three days, Sonar presents DESPACIO powered by McIntosh, which comprises of 3 DJ sets by James Murphy and 2MANYDJS, who will play vinyl only, for 6 hours on an exclusive stage at Sónar by Day.
Friday the 13th; unlucky for some but if you’re in Barcelona at Sonar festival this day, you’ll be laughing: FOREST SWORDS, JON HOPKINS, BONOBO, PARRISH, ONEOHTRIX POINT NEVER and WOODKID are all on before midnight. CARIBOU, RICHIE HAWTIN, LOCO DICE, TODD TERJE, FOUR TET and GESAFFELSTEIN are set to play through the night and into the early hours of the morning.
Saturday has NENEH CHERRY, JAMES HOLDEN, WHOMADEWHO and MAJICAL CLOUDZ playing Sonar By Day within its Fira Montjuïc location. The festival’s close will be graced with some of its biggest acts: MASSIVE ATTACK, LYKKE LI, YELLE, BOYS NOIZE and TIGA.
