German composer and pianist HAUSCHKA aka Volker Bertelmann unveils his new piece Agdam. It is taken off his album Abandoned City which will be released on March 17 via City Slang / Universal.
HAUSCHKA is best known for his use of the prepared piano. The concept of changing the sound of the instrument by putting small objects or pieces of leather and rubber on or between the strings was invented by JOHN CAGE.
The better part of Abandoned City was recorded in ten days after the birth of Bertelmann’s first son. As the title indicates HAUSCHKA tries to convey the atmosphere of vacant towns and places of to the listener. All tracks on the album are named after such ghost towns. Listen to Agdam below.
