MIA - 2013

Just in case you missed it over the weekend. M.I.A. released a brand new tune. It’s called CanSeeCanDo and it’s her first new material since 2013’s Matangi longplayer. According to the Soundcloud description we can expect: ‘SMOKE AND JAZZ AND SAXOPHONE.’ Well, she’s only partly right but still it’s quite a tune. Witness it right here.

British producer duo JUNGLE had one hell of a right in the past twelve months so it makes absolute sense to re-release their praised self-titled debut as a deluxe version, featuring shiny new reworks of their past hit singles. One of the new tracks is a ZOMBY remix of The Heat. And since the produced labeled it ’92 we’re not really surprised that it sounds like a long lost rave rarity from 1992. Listen for yourself right here.

It feels a bit like a wet dream for all kids of the 80s. THE SMITHS mastermind JOHNNY MARR has covered the DEPECHE MODE classic I Feel You for a forthcoming limited 7” single for Record Store Day. Ain’t that nice? Don’t forget to read our extended special with Mr. MARR from last fall.

Hyped wave rock newcomers VIET CONG recently had to cancel a gig since a concert promoter was deeply hurt by their band name. And now the band gets a famous advocate in the form of GANG OF FOUR mastermind Andy Gill. As you can imagine, he’s quite pissed about this fact as he also told Brooklyn Vegan: ‘It’s a little ridiculous to ban bands for their name… We should not be deciding for people what we think they are capable of understanding or not. Artists; film-makers, writers, musicians need to be un-censored so they can make their point, political or otherwise.’ Well, he surely got a point right here. Don’t forget to read NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION‘s interview with Mr. Gill from recently.

JAMIE LIDELL reports back with new music. Believe In Me is the name of the song and according to the artist it’s ‘an honest admission of self doubt.’ It’s his first music since his 2013 self-titled studio album and a one-off-track for the Grand Theft Auto V  soundtrack. No words yet on a new studio album but you can enjoy the song right here:

Irish singer songwriter Conor O’ Brien and his alter ego VILLAGERS have shared new music from their forthcoming album Darling Arithmetic in the form of Hot Scary Summer. And of course, it’s another outstanding piece by this talented gentleman. The follow-up to 2013’s {Awayland} is set for a release on April the 13th via Domino Records. Listen to the new song right here.

Can you believe it’s been six years since acclaimed beatmaker HUDSON MOHAWKE released his debut album Butter? After various production jobs and stand-alone tracks the praised producer is now ready to unleash a follow-up full-length. Lantern is its name and it will arrive on June 15, featuring 14 new songs and guest appearances by ANTONY AND THE JONSONS, MIGUEL and others. You can already take a first glimpse of what to expect with a little album teaser right here.

Buzzing lo-fi duo GIRLPOOL is about to release its anticipated debut LP Before The World Was Big on June 1st via Wichita Recordings. It will also feature the previously released single Chinatown and a freshly published song called Ideal World. And if you are not familiar with the music of Cleo Tucker and Harmony Tividad by now it’s about time we would suggest. Find the proof right here in their newest tune.

MUSE are not done yet, teasing their new album Drones. We expect an official announcement any minute. In the meantime the band shared another Instagram video that shows the mixing session of the record’s first single which will go by the name Psycho.

BIG NOBLE, the side-project of Daniel Kessler from INTERPOL and sound designer Joseph Fraioli have shared a music video for the song Atlantic Din. It’s taken off their recommendable debut album First Light and was created with the help of director Ben Hughes who describes his video as ‘an elliptical tale of madness, wanderlust, saints and ghosts, shot in New York City, Buffalo and the Mayan Riviera.’ Witness the result right here.

It looks like MODEST MOUSE are not done yet with the teasing for their forthcoming comeback album Strangers To Ourselves. Yes, they’ve already giving us Lampshades On Fire, Coyotes, Of Course We Know and more but here comes the latest teaser in form of the album’s title-track. And they just told the world that we could expect a second new album by them sooner than we might have thought. Only a few days left, ladies and gentlemen. The record finally arrives next week.
