Piano Man
British newcomer BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE doesn’t need much more than his piano and his distinctive voice. Maybe a few reduced beats to accompany the melancholic melodies like in the opening Condolence. But his full beauty and talent comes alive when it’s just these two elements like in the heart-wrenching Edmonton. Sometimes the simple things remain the best.
Major label
The Glorious You EP marks the first release of CLEMENTINE on a major label after creating quite a buzz on last year’s showcase festivals. Usually this marks a quite tricky situation but besides having a bit more budget for his music videos and getting the production even tighter it looks like the soulful foundation of his music remains as strong as before.
Short but sensual
BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE‘s voice is not a gentle one. Well, it certainly got lots of emotions but it’s full of honest cracks. There is an undeniable bluesy note, something that instantly connects with the listener and gives him a certain unique feature. He’s the living proof that edginess and a certain mainstream approach don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Let’s hope a full-length album follows next.
BENJAMIN CLEMENTINE and his new EP ‘Glorious You’ underline the outstanding talent of the newcomer to combine honest edginess with an unforced mainstream approach.
