Every year, the Berliner Pop-Kultur Festival funds fifteen projects by artists from all genres and backgrounds. These pieces are conceptualized and premiered exclusively at the festival but resonate beyond. We spoke to creative producer Pamela Schlewinski, and the artists Anika and Portrait XO about the experience and opportunities this program creates.
In the cold November of 2011 two friends from Sweden released a tropical dose of sweet musical escapism which invited the listener to explore a textured fantasy world. On top of it that album was also loaded with lots of pop musical references which made NBHAP head Norman immediately fall in love back then. One decade that flame of love is still burning strong so he decided to track down Marcus Joons and Daniel Tjäder, the people responsible for this hidden musical treasure.
The current phase of self isolation is forcing us to be creative, kill some time and maybe also do something we've never done before. Listening to music can be a great way of coping with the situation and we decided to make a little challenge out of it. NBHAP head Norman finally found some time to give the music of Icelandic icon Björk far more attention than he did in the past years. And he quickly discovered that it's not enough.
