Never change a winning system… well, maybe optimize it a bit. Berlin’s By the Lake Festival returns for its third edition this summer and did exactly that which got us at NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION extremely excited and proud to present the cozy event one more time this year. Once again focusing on unconventional and undiscovered music, in an accessible, relaxed, family-friendly and tolerant atmosphere, By the Lake Festival decided to embrace the lovely Strandbad Weißensee as it’s full-time venue on August 13 which is a perfect place to host this event. The lovely lido invites you to head for a swim in-between bands while also enjoying a good drink in the sunshine. Ain’t that nice?
Like its predecessors By the Lake Festival 2017 is organised by the folks who are running web radio ‘The Lake’, most prominently Danish indie art heroes EFTERKLANG. ‘By the Lake 2016 at Strandbad felt like a manifestation of a dream of the most beautiful day of Summer; music, friendship, swimming and good times’, recalls the band’s Rasmus Stolberg last season before adding ‘We can’t wait to repeat it all again on August 13th.’ Once again, the event isn’t interested in providing your standard festival line-up but rather heads for a unique selection of music. German krautrock icon MICHAEL ROTHER will headline the day with legendary music from his influential bands NEU! and HARMONIA.
Additionally we also got JANKA NABAY, the undisputed king of bubu, a frantically-paced dance music with ancient, magical origins in Sierra Leone, who brings his BUBU GANG along for some funky African grooves which perfectly fit into the Strandbad. Acclaimed Danish musician PETER BRODERICK performs a truly special set packed with his interpretations of music by the almighty ARTHUR RUSSELL. Last but not least Sasha Perera aka PERERA ELSEWHERE will perform a set of her haunting trip-hop-infected music. Looks like an extraordinary day at the beach in Berlin, right?
