The world of ANNA AARON is full of inconsistencies. As Cécile Meyer, a child of Swiss missionaries, she grew up in England and in Asian cities. With seventeen she began writing songs but her musical career started only in 2009 when she debuted as a solo artist with the EP I’ll Dry Your Tears Little Murderer. Before that the 29-year old had studied philosophy and German studies and tried her hand at playing in a band.
In 2011 AARON‘s album Dogs in Spirit was released and now it’s time for her new work Neuro. While Dogs in Spirit contained many religious and mythical symbols, Neuro tends more to technology and futurism, yet still spiritual. This is expressed in the artwork of the sleeve and of course in the twelve new songs. There are electronic influences which probably have to be ascribed to David Kosten. The British producer and musician, who is also known as FAULTLINE, produced among others BAT FOR LASHES and EVERYTHING EVERYTHING. Another notable musician who gave AARON a helping hand is THE CURE drummer Jason Cooper.
The album starts slowly and melancholic with the song Case, a beautiful piano melody and enough space to introduce AARON‘s voice that is sometimes reminiscent of SOPHIE HUNGER.
But don’t be fooled by the first impression. The second song Stellarling (this year’s first Sound of the Day) shows how variable her voice is. By constantly changing the pitches, AARON creates a piece that demands full attention and is really fun listening.
The singer prefers sincerity to perfection. There is a remarkable imaginativeness and ardour and all the songs sound like the team had a lot of fun producing them.
With her music ANNA AARON went in quest of sense in her life. Looks as if she had found it.
Neuro will be released on March 21 via Two Gentlemen. For those who don’t want to wait any longer NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION has the exclusive album stream ready for you. Enjoy ANNA AARON‘s edgy piano pop right here.
