Two year after her really lovely second album Fast Food, sinister songwriter NADINE SHAH reports back with a follow-up this summer. Holiday Destination is set for a release via 1965 Records on August 25. And, of course, the new album is also inspired by the current political landscape as she explains the album’s title in a press release:
‘I saw this really shocking news piece. It was about migrants and refugees turning up on the shores of Kos in Greece by the thousands. There were some holidaymakers being interviewed and they were talking about how ‘they’re really ruining our holiday’. The fact that they had no shame in saying that whilst being interviewed, on national television… it really shocked me. This is what I am seeing across the globe: people unashamedly saying these awful things. It’s like, wow – people really don’t care and they’ll happily talk about how they don’t care. That’s why it’s called Holiday Destination.’
A first single arrives in the form of the pumping Out The Way which addresses the issue of her identity being way too often questioned despite being a second-generation immigrant. The second song Yes Men is dedicated to a special group of people as SHAH explains in the following words:
‘Yes Men are the people that sell the lies and convince us that their enemy is our enemy, they’re the people who hide in plain sight behind bold typefaces on the covers of mainstream media outlets, the ones that would make us believe that the hand in power which is perpetually slapping you in the face is the hand that will someday pull us from a chasm of its own creation.’
