Interesting progress in the trial around famous Russian protest punk band PUSSY RIOT. According to The Hollywood Reporter and sevral other news stations the Russian Supreme Court has called for a review of the verdict from August 2012. Back then band members Maria Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich were declared guilty of – as it was called – “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.” The women were sentenced to two years in prison.

Now the Supreme Court criticizes a few motifs of the lower Moscow court which held the trial. One is the lack of proof that the crimes have been “motivated by hatred toward any social group”. The other one is that the court in Moscow ignored the fact that Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova are mothers of small children. This might not be the most perfect news for  PUSSY RIOT but in best case they can leave jail earlier. The bill must still be passed by the Russian parliament but acording to The Guardian things are looking good for this to happen. Anyway, it helps to not forget about this important subject.
