Sometimes you tend to get a bit tired of the Berlin hype. Especially when you are based in German’s capital as most of the staff from NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION is. But it might have something to do with a lack of objective perspective. For a lot of artists from abroad the former divided city still got this specific fascination. And English experimental electronics BRETON are the next group that fell for the city’s very own vibe.
The band had to find a new home after their very own “bretonLABS”, an abandoned bank in South East London, was demolished in late 2012. Here they recorded their critically acclaimed debut Other People’s Problems. After several attempts to settle in new studios in London they found a new spot – in Berlin. The Funkhaus Studios, former home of the Communist propaganda during the Cold War, were the perfect place for BRETON to record a follow-up record. The yet untitled sophomore longplayer is up for a release in February 2014 via the band’s very own imprint Cut Tooth. And only they know which interesting musical aspects we can expect from that.
At least, already today, we might get a hint on the band’s recent musical influences as BRETON contribute our latest NBHAP Guestmix. A one hour-selection of tight electronic beats, straight out of the clubs, into your head and probably directly in your feet afterwards. Hypnotic groove material, no matter if you’re about to party in the Berghain or your very own living room. May these tunes be your guide tonight.
