Ja Ja Ja - November - Featured

The JA JA JA artists in Novmeber from left to right: CHINAH, M-BAND and EMMECOSTA.

Sometimes things don’t work out the way they were planned. But to paraphrase the great philosopher and role model Bob Ross here: There are no mistakes, just happy little accidents. After already bringing you the Scandinavian vibe and hype in September and October, the Ja Ja Ja Club Night announced the third part of its second season recently. Unfortunately, AV AV AV and BOEOES KALSTIGEN had to cancel their appearances. But considering the amount of massive talent from the north, that’s no problem at all, right?

So here we are again and NOTHING BUT HOPE AND PASSION once more teams up with the folks from FluxFM to bring you up and coming acts from the North right into the heart of Berlin (and Hamburg). Find more details on the whole event right here and full ticket infos at the bottom of the article. And on top of it – we’re giving away 3×2 tickets for the events. Just send a mail to win@nbhap.com with the subject ‘JaJaJa’, your full name and the city of your choice.

But now it’s time to present you the music and people behind the Ja Ja Ja edition in November. Danish synth pop trio CHINAH is joining us together with EMMECOSTA from Sweden and M-BAND from Iceland. This is how they sound and what they got to say.

CHINAH (DK)

NAO vs A.K. PAUL – So Good

What can we expect from your performance at the Ja Ja Ja club night?

Get ready for some serious piano-shredding. Also we bring a drummer (a third Simon!), who really helps bringing the music to another level when we are playing live. We experiment with different forms and dynamics for our live versions, so you might get surprised.

What has been your best and also your most frustrating moment in your life as an artist so far?

Last time we played in London was also at Ja Ja Ja at The Lexington. It was our second time playing in London, and we we’re quite amazed to find out that the audience actually recognized our songs (especially Away From Me) and seemed to be digging at. Suddenly it felt very real that we actually have been releasing music that people are listening to.

The most frustrating moment must be rerecording vocals for two whole songs after finding out that the preamp tube we used was broken.

Unleash your inner Burt Bacharach and complete the following sentence… ‘What the world needs now is…’

… less pan flute.

We are all about hope and passion – what two elements define your artistic work?

Two keywords in our approach to making music is ‘immediacy’ and ‘pickiness’.

We are all about hope and passion – what two elements define your artistic work?

Truth and Poetry

M-BAND (IS)

Name a stereotype about your country that is actually true, according to your experience.

Nothing I can come up with really. After I moved abroad I noticed that icelandic people are nothing special. People are special.

Name three songs that should not be absent from your personal ‘Nordic Music Playlist’

AMFJ – Eins og í draumi
BLACK PACKERS – All Ears Bleed
PANASONIC – Untitled

What can we expect from your performance at the Ja Ja Ja club night?’

Nothing at all. Surprise is much more fun.

What has been your best and also your most frustrating moment in your life as an artist so far?

There is no particular moment really. Since I started the project the whole trip has been quite an experience with all it’s up’s and down’s. I´m always grateful when I manage to finish a track, go off stage after good show, travel and see new things and meet new friends. It happens as well that gear breaks down or luggage get´s lost, or you didn’t get the fund you were applying for or whatever. It´s all part of the program really.

Unleash your inner Burt Bacharach and complete the following sentence… ‘What the world needs now is…’

‘Nothing. The world takes care of itself.’

We are all about hope and passion – what two elements define your artistic work?

Experiment and atmosphere.
